The Melvin Stone Co., Williamsport Quarry recently opened their doors to the “Friends of Mineralogy Midwest” club for a Saturday morning of mineral and fossil collecting.
Rock, Fossil and Mineral collectors are some of the industry's strongest advocates and sincerely appreciate the opportunity to explore and collect on our sites. The “Friends of Mineralogy” ensure that their members are properly outfitted and trained to MSHA standards and host many safety training classes throughout the year.
Former Geologist with ODNR’s Geological Survey, Scott Kell, leads many of these training sessions and has a passion for the aggregates industry that he shares with his fellow collectors.

Below, a sample of some of the awesome specimens collected.
Special thanks to Charlie Murphy and his crew for hosting this wonderful event and to Cory Kiser (Melvin Stone) and Scott Kell for sharing their passion and their knowledge with the group.
